Our Purpose

Many of us grow up learning some of life’s most valuable lessons from our coaches and alongside teammates who become our best friends. But the call for inclusion often stops short of genuine, meaningful participation for those with disabilities. For many of our athletes, it’s not enough to be the team manager or to be put in at the end of a blowout game.

WE BELIEVE: We are better collectively than individually. We find purpose, joy, and belonging through sports.

Empower Sports was founded with the belief that no athlete should ever be left on the sidelines, regardless of disability, age, race, or gender. When we kicked off our first basketball clinic in November of 2012, we welcomed ALL athletes with the mindset of tailoring the program to meet each individual where they are. The result was a beautifully diverse group of athletes and volunteers enjoying time together in the gym.

Since then, our program has evolved to include softball, soccer, lacrosse, flag football, pickleball, kickball, fitness classes, and a lot more basketball! Through these team sport initiatives, we bring groups of our favorite athletes together with volunteer teams to play. Intermixing the teams allows our players to exercise alongside their typically functioning peers and most importantly, have fun!
